My photography lessons are drawing to a close (second-last one tomorrow), and I've yet to really post anything about them. For the first few weeks of lessons, I was a bit bored and frustrated, as I felt like I already knew most of what was being covered. Over the past few weeks, however, we've been venturing into new territory for me, and I regularly find myself thinking "Dammit, I wish I had known that when I got my camera!". I'm finally beginning to see the creative potential of my camera and to figure out how to fix some of the problems that frustrate me with my photos. Like snow not appearing white enough, which is definitely a common problem this winter*.
In putting together my photos for my class tomorrow, I'm finding that I actually like quite a few of them, and it makes me want to share. So here, for your viewing pleasure, are my three photos for the week.
A photo of a white object on a white background:
A photo with a single dominant colour:
A photo with a dominant and an accent colour.
I still have so much to learn and so far to go, but it's nice to see progress. If only I could quit my job for a few months and focus on this full-time. Anyone want to gift me a large sum of money?
*This fricking cold, driving my slightly batty, refusing to ever end winter.

Oh, those second two photos are just LOVELY. Great job!
These are great. I have a nice camera that I don't use to its potential. I just use the auto mode. I need to take a class.
Jenna - Thanks! It took a lot of experimenting to get them the way I wanted.
SurlyMama - I was using the auto mode until I took this class, and now I'm enjoying my camera far more that I actually understand how to use it properly. I strongly recommend taking a class if it's something you enjoy.
I love your photos!
You've inspired me so much to travel and do things for myself :) I'm in school 8 years, might as well really embrace everything!
I'm a fairly easy plane ride to Vancouver (same coast, haha) and I think I can get to Montreal pretty easily. When would you recommend going to either city? I have a break in September and of course, a summer full of just lab work, so I definitely can take some time off...and I feel like rewarding myself
Dolce Vita - Glad to be an inspiration! I would totally encourage you to visit Vancouver (which I've been to a few times) and Montreal (which I've never been to but would like to visit in the future). I can't comment much about Montreal, but for Vancouver summer is probably a bit better than September, as Vancouver gets a lot of grey/rainy weather in the fall-spring. That being said, I've been to Vancouver in February, April, and November and had a great (albeit sometimes rainy) visit every time. Vancouver Island is also incredible and accessible via flights to Victoria. The North side of Vancouver Island (Tofino/Uklulet) is filled with gorgeous old-growth cedar forests that are breathtaking.
Oh...now you have me wanting to go back to Vancouver/Vancouver Island...
Nice pictures! I like the white-on-white one, good use of shallow depth of field. Now, if you know anyone who wants to fund BOTH of our photographic careers, please do get in touch...
